Sergio Fiorentino

Sergio Fiorentino was born in 1973 in Catania where he continues to live and work. While studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Catania he became the pupil and friend of the influential painter Franco Piruca. Fiorentino furthered his studies into decorative arts and design of the twentieth century. His success has seen works acquired by prestigious permanent collections including the MacS (Sicily Contemporary Art Museum) in Catania.

Fiorentino’s enigmatic oil on canvas portraits combine his traditional background with a bold contemporary handling. In appearance, they recall aged oil paintings, classical portraits with a surface of cracked porcelain. Captivating large faces stare relentlessly from the frame they fill, they emerge from the canvas as though from the depths of the ocean. His subjects demand attention, drawing the viewer into their silent, timeless space.
