Luca Zarattini was born in Codigoro in northern Italy in 1984 and is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna. Increasing support for Zarattini’s talent from critics, galleries and collectors has led to a series of important exhibitions and awards for the artist. In 2013, Rome’s institutional space The House of Architecture commissioned him to create a large-scale work dedicated to Italo Calvino.
Zarattini’s current work combines traditional subjects with the experimentation of materials. The incorporation of contemporary and industrial elements including cement, plastic and recycled metal not only gives a rich, dense surface texture to his arresting paintings but also creates an intriguing dialogue between the past and the present.
